Election for women representatives in ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) Board held on January 6, 2019 in AWCCI main office. At the beginning, Ms. Wafeq, President of AWCCI welcomed all and subsequently participants introduced themselves to each other. Afterwards, Ms. Wafeq described the requirements for candidates and wanted the participants to nominate themselves based on the requirement and then they can candidate themselves for ICC Board. Two people were supposed to be selected from AWCCI and get the membership of ICC Board. Six women nominated themselves for ICC Board.

First candidate was Ms. Manizha Wafeq. She is the President and Co-Founder of AWCCI. She has been working for women empowerment and Gender equality 15 years. She is an Active representative of Afghan women in international conferences and ICC. She has been leading AWCCI since establishing this entity and has been very successful in this journey.

Second Candidate was Ms. Zohal Atmar, the President of Gule Mursal Recycle Company who said she nominate herself for ICC Board because, she is Head of Gule Mursal recycle Company, she has been very successful in creating job for men and women, she can speak English fluently, and she led both of her companies (her logistic company and Gule Mursal Recycling company).

Ms. Najia Raofi was the third person who nominated herself for ICC Board. She said that the reasons that she nominated herself are: she is Head of Naja Raofi Digital Company, she is aware of women issues in society, she leads a national project, and she led her company for 13 years.

Ms. Latifa Majidi, Head of Shabana Trading Company was the fourth person who nominated herself for ICC Board. She has two master’s degree in International Relations and Public Administration, she is fluent in English, she has been working with women for women empowerment for many years, she has a rich background in Business, and she has rich international network.

Ms. Afsana Rahimi, CEO of Shayar media services was the fifth candidate. She is the Chair of AWCCI Board of Directors, she has been an active representative of AWCCI in International conferences, and she is the CEO of Shayar Media Provider who provides services in media sector in the country.

And Ms. Hosai Andar is the last person who nominated herself for ICC Board. She is the former Board member of ICC, she has been Board member of ACCI for 17 years and she has had important role in creating the labor law.

After that every candidate talked about their reasons that why they nominated themselves, all participants voted for their desired candidate. As a result, Ms. Manizha Wafeq and Ms. Afsana Rahimi were selected with the majority of votes as ICC Board members.
