President Ghani speaks with AWCCI Representatives to take mitigation measures for COVID-19 impacts on women businesses

President Ghani spoke with representatives of the Afghanistan Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries via videoconference on the challenges and recommendations of businesswomen on April 5, 2020.
Ms. Afsana Rahimi, Ns. Jamila Sadaat, Ms. Maryam Jami, Ms. Laila Afaq and Ms. Shekiba Shekib, the representatives of AWCCI from center, east, west, north, and south zones receptively, talked about the women businesses and enterprises, home economy, supporting domestic products, marketing, provision of land to women businesses, and the security of businesspeople and entrepreneurs. Besides challenges, they also proposed some recommendations in supporting these businesses and entrepreneurs.
They assured the President about women’s preparation and readiness for producing and supplying protective suits, masks, and other related items required during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Afterward, the Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Ajmal Ahmady said, despite the challenges and problems caused by COVID-19 pandemic, there are opportunities for the production of medical items and protective suits in the country. He also mentioned that 118 companies in producing masks and protective suits, 31 in medical equipment, and 46 in the production and provision, have shown their readiness.
President Ghani, while appreciating women entrepreneur’s efforts, said that supporting domestic products is one of the top priorities of the government. The President added that the construction work of the cold storages for preserving and supporting agri-produces, has started in ten (10) provinces and the government strives to perform substantial and continuous activities for women entrepreneurs. He addressed to the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock (MAIL) for using grapes in making raisins and juice. He emphasized that by establishing associations and unions, attention to be paid to women’s products, and in this regard, women entrepreneurs should share their recommendations with the government.
President Ghani further explained that the government has adopted necessary measures in terms of provision and arrangement of 100,000 beds for probable COVID-19 infected patients.
