Rural Women Handicrafts Exhibition in Nangarhar

Venue: Royal Castle of Jalalabad, Nangarhar

Rural Women Handicrafts Exhibition held for three days in Nangarhar by the Directorate of Rural Rehabilitation and Development and with the support of other partner organizations on November 21, 2018 in Royal Castle of Jalalabad. In this exhibition, women from different sectors like handicrafts, carpet, decoration items, food and other women products participated.

Eng. Mujib-ur- Rhaman Zia, Director of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in Nangarhar said that the purpose of holding this exhibition is to promote women handicrafts. He added, about 15 booths of women handicrafts, carpets and food products were there in the exhibition.

Ms. Jamila Sadat, one of participants of this exhibition who has worked for 10 years in crafts said, “I created more than 300 jobs for women and they are producing different Afghani handicrafts like scarves, and decorative items for homes”. She added, these exhibitions are good for marketing of women products, but this is better to create an exclusive bazaar for women industrialists”.

Another participant of this exhibition was Ms. Arefa, a resident of Chaparhar district of Nangarhar. She along with her family produces carpets at home and said that their main challenge is lack of producing place and Market for their carpets. She added, their carpets are sent to Pakistan and they export it to the international bazaars with “Made in Pakistan” mark.

This was not the first exhibition of women handicrafts in Nangarhar and several other exhibitions held previously for the marketing of women handicrafts in this province.
